Cardinal Thomas Wakeman
Background At 32 Lord Thomas Wakeman (see pics) is the youngest cardinal in the history of the church. Dark of complexion, he is tall and thin. Handsome and extremely charismatic, with a deep, soothing voice, he is well suited to life at court, but such has not been his fate. Indeed, he is just returned from the north, accompanied by a cohort of the Moja Hedin (Holy Warriors), where he has been engaged in converting (read warring with) the faithless heathens abiding there. He was "chosen" to go north because he is considered ruthless and a master of intrigue by superiors who fear him. And indeed, they are right to do so. He thrives on politics and the machinations associated with court life and is very ambitious. It seems that their plan to send him north to die has backfired. A born warrior, his successes have made him something of a hero to the populace and he now wields more power than ever. He has been assigned to run the monastery at Gwynn, a very prestigious, much sought-after post.
